Jared’s Place will assist women who have experienced violence by providing information, referrals, and support as they navigate through complicated legal systems (family, criminal, immigration, child welfare) and will work towards systemic and policy change through research and advocacy.
Jared’s Place is named in honour of a courageous and gifted young boy who was murdered by his father during a court-ordered unsupervised access visit in 2006. Jared’s mother continues to fight against the injustice that led to the tragic death of her son. We join her struggle in the hopes that another life will not be lost to domestic violence.
What is a Legal Advocate?
A Legal Advocate provides support, information, advocacy and referrals on a variety of legal topics. She assists women in navigating through legal systems, creating safety plans, preparing documents and attending court and other legal appointments with women. She is not a lawyer and she is not a paralegal.
